Comments
This year was a bit of a rollercoaster with ups and downs! I reached many of my goals and managed to pair up some exciting breedings that I'd been planning since I started breeding. By the end of the year, many of the rats from my first breedings have gotten older and some have passed away. Many aged gracefully, but others did not. At the end of the year, I made the decision to cease breeding one line of my rats (descendants of PH Amber) due to its fairly high incidence of tumors. This is a big blow to my breeding program since about half of my rats were descended from this line,
but it's important to weed out any health issues. I also stopped breeding rats descending from RRLM Cricket - these rats were not as social/friendly with people as I would have liked, and that temperament was very difficult to change, so I stopped breeding his offspring.
Litters whose line has been ended have a line through their parents, and details about the reasoning.
My other lines of rats are doing wonderfully and I am very pleased. Since I've started breeding, I have seen huge improvements in overall type, consistency, and temperament.
