Comments: Ben was a very large rat who weighed about 750g. He was completely healthy throughout his life but unfortunately when he was about 2 1/2 he broke his leg in his cage somehow. The vet and I decided that to do an amputation would be too stressful on him at that age. The plan was to let the leg heal naturally (which is usually the best treatment in broken legs anyway). The leg appeared to be healing but then suddenly got infected and it spread very quickly. We decided to have him PTS so he would not suffer.
